2 women who died in head-on crash identified
UPDATE (8/10/25): The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has identified the two women who died after a head-on crash near Tornillo on Saturday afternoon.
Maria Escudero Loya, 51, the driver of the Mazda CX-5 and her passenger, Mayrin Perez, 21, died from their injuries. Loya died at the scene and Perez at an area hospital.
The driver of the Nissan Titan has not been identified yet. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing.
UPDATE: The El Paso County Sheriff's Office confirms two people have died after a head-on crash in far East El Paso County.
A Nissan Titan and Mazda CX-5 collided head-on along O.T. Smith and M.F. Aguilera just after 2:30 p.m.
The driver of the Mazda died at the scene, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The driver and passenger of the Nissan were taken to an area hospital where the driver later died from their injuries.
The investigation continues, it is unknown if speed was a factor in the crash.
The two people who died have not been identified until next of kin are notified.
TORNILLO, Texas (KVIA) - The El Paso County Sheriff's STI unit responded to a serious crash on O.T. Smith and Alameda in Tornillo Saturday afternoon.
It happened just after 4:30 p.m. the area was closed down for the investigation.
Sheriff deputies are asking drivers to seek an alternate route.
No word yet on any injuries.
