1 dead, 2 wounded in Juarez shopping mall shooting

One person was shot and killed, while two others were shot and wounded by a group of armed thieves at a busy north Juarez shopping mall, Mexican media outlets reported Sunday.

The deadly robbery took place Saturday night at the entrance to the Futurama Rio Grande Mall, according to El Mexicano.

The newspaper said the gunfire occurred as thieves stole several bags of money from an armored truck; the sound of shots fired caused a panic among dozens of mall shoppers.

All three shooting victims were reportedly employees of the security company that owned the armored truck.

There was a massive police presence at the mall following the shootings and some stores closed.

The mall shooting death marked the latest homicide in Chihuahua state, which El Diario reported Sunday now has the third-highest murder rate in Mexico.
