‘He put us before anything’; Fiancée of motorcyclist killed in central El Paso crash remembers his life
EL PASO, Texas — The fiancée of the motorcyclist killed in a collision Sunday morning described him as a family man who put them before himself.
27-year-old Jontrell Ash Bernard died after he was thrown from his motorcycle along Interstate 10, according to El Paso police.
ABC-7 was able to contact his fiance, Marcela Rodirguez, who was unable to speak on camera or over the phone, but shared memories of Bernard.
“He is an amazing man (with) such a big heart,” Rodriguez said. “He put us before anything.” Rodriguez described Bernard as the love of her life and her soulmate.
She said his family was his world and he was theirs.
Bernard and Rodiguez had been in a common law marriage for one year, but the couple was planning on getting married sometime next year.
Bernard was a father of two boys, and was a father figure to Roriguez’s daughter.
His death came at a difficult time for his family. Rodriguez told ABC-7 Bernard’s oldest son is about to celebrate his 8th birthday without his father by his side.
According to his Facebook page, Bernard worked at the Chill Spot Barber Shop in northeast El Paso. ABC-7 called the barber shop Sunday afternoon but was unable to get in contact with anyone from the shop.
Funeral services have not been set yet.
