Quilting guild looks to help El Paso community heal, donates quilts to Aug. 3 shooting victims
EL PASO, Texas -- It has been more than five months since the August 3rd mass shooting at the Cielo Vista Walmart. That tragedy remains fresh in many El Pasoans minds including the quilting community in the city. The quilting guild is showing love and support for the victims families, the first respondents and anyone else that was affected by the senseless violence.
The quilting guild donated dozens of quilts over the weekend to those most closely affected by the tragedy. The coordinator for the group told ABC-7 the quilts take anywhere between three days to a week to make.
Brenda Anchondo lost her child in the shooting, these quilts help with the healing process. "Its just marvelous it shows how much .. so much how people have done for us. just their prayers makes you strong," Anchondo said.
Supplies to make the quilts were made possible thanks to donations from people across the borderland. Victims families say they are grateful for the acts of love and kindness.
