Victims share their story of being contacted by scammers pretending to work for El Paso’s DEA
UPDATE - Diane Snyder, a victim of a fake DEA agent phone scam, spoke about what she was told when the scammers contacted her earlier this year.
"Immediately, I started getting, I'm from the DEA, This is my number. This is my name. We are going to arrest you for a drug trafficking," said Snyder.
She eventually connected with real DEA agents, who told her that the phone call and threats were fake, and from a scammer.
Snyder said she made sure to warn her bank, to ensure her finances are safe, and keep her friends in the loop, so they can be aware of any possible scammers.
Carlos Briano, the Public Information Officer with DEA, El Paso Division, said most of these cases are from areas nowhere near El Paso.
He also informed ABC-7 that the DEA does not conduct any business by phone, nor does it request money.
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- There have been people across the United States subjected to a scam from people posing as DEA agents.
ABC-7 spoke with Diane Snyder, who lives in the Philadelphia area, and says she was contacted by scammers posing as DEA agents.
Snyder says that she was told by the scammers that she was going to face criminal charges, unless she gave them money.
Snyder was able to recognize that the threats were fraudulent, hung up the phone, and reported it to her local police department.
Now the El Paso DEA is now warning Borderland residents of potential similar threats in this area.
