UTEP celebrates progress of Texas Western Hall with “topping out” ceremony

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- University of Texas at El Paso president Heather Wilson joined officials from the school and Sundt Construction to celebrate the last beam of the new building going in to place.

Construction began on the $110 million dollar project in October 2023.

The new complex will include 37 classrooms, several large auditoriums and 23 collaboration spaces with "state-of-the-art technology, a café and a rooftop terrace with a view of Centennial Plaza," according to university officials.

Funding from the Texas legislature and permanent university funds from The University of Texas System Board of Regents supported the construction, which is expected to open in Spring 2026.

Once Western Hall opens, the adjacent Liberal Arts building will be demolished, and the arroyo it sits on will be restored.

ABC-7 participated on a tour inside the building Wednesday morning.

Tune in to this afternoon's newscasts for more details on the new building.
