Company in Radium Springs looking to “revolutionize” affordable housing
RADIUM SPRINGS, New Mexico (KVIA) -- A company in Radium Springs is building houses in a process that’s being called more similar to a Tesla assembly line than a typical construction site, and they say it will "revolutionize" the way people can get a home.
Live BFF, which stands for Better Futures Forever, is manufacturing home kits that can be put together much quicker and cheaper than traditional houses, and components are made using CNC machines in an assembly line-type process.
Justin Armendariz, founder of Live BFF, says he’s taken inspiration from Tesla and Space-X’s manufacturing processes, and is now attempting to apply it to homes.
Armendariz says Live BFF’s home building process, which consists of computer numerical control, cuts down material, construction, and assembly prices significantly, and it all happens on their site in Radium Springs.
“We’re really proud of the fact that we have eliminated a lot of the assemblies that are labor-intensive and time consuming," said Armendariz to ABC-7 Monday.
The structures are also designed to be quote, "plug and play" with pre-manufactured wiring harnesses throughout, and are intended to be eco-friendly.
Armendariz says the wall panels alone are 85% recyclable by weight.
Four prototypes are under currently under construction at the site in Radium Springs.
“In the next five years, we’d definitely like to be working in 10 plus states, and working with any government jurisdiction that have a need for housing," added Armendariz.
Las Cruces mayor-elect Eric Enriquez says he’s impressed with what the company is doing.
“I really want to introduce them to the community, and see how they can help with our unhoused individuals and affordable housing in the future," said Enriquez to ABC-7 Monday.
The prototype homes will be unveiled this Saturday, December 2nd.
Enriquez is expected to attend the event.
