Three Las Cruces students arrested for allegedly making school threats

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- A total of three students in Las Cruces have now been charged with posting school threats, according to the Las Cruces Police Department.

LCPD announced Tuesday afternoon that an 11-year-old girl has been charged with a Class III juvenile citation after allegedly posting a threat of a shooting to Sierra Middle School on Instagram.

She was denied detention due to her age by the Juvenile Probation Office due to her age according to police, and was turned over to her parents.

This is the third instance of a student making a threat towards a Las Cruces school in the last two days.

ABC-7 reported Monday night that a 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl posted online threats of violence to Camino Real Middle School and Centennial High School respectively, and were each arrested and charged with unlawful threats toward a school.

A spokesman for LCPD says "anyone who sees or receives a threatening post is asked to refrain from forwarding it to others, or reposting it, as doing so may cause unnecessary fear and widespread panic."

They also encourage anyone who sees or receives information that is believed to be threatening to screenshot the content and immediately alert law enforcement by calling 911.
