LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- The Pedrena Apartment, a brand new senior apartment complex, had a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday.

The complex is located at the intersection of El Paseo Road and Farney Lane in Las Cruces.

The new three-story apartment building, designed for residents over the age of 55, will feature 80 apartments, as well as three single-level duplexes.

Future residents can look forward to having washers and dryers in each unit, private decks and patios, an elevator, fitness room, and more.

“Many seniors in Las Cruces have a new place to call home, thanks to the addition of Pedrena Apartments to the community," Director of Housing Development George Maestas explained. "Housing New Mexico is proud to be a partner by providing several funding sources for the development of Pedrena, increasing affordable housing opportunities for New Mexicans across the state.”

State officials say the majority of the units will be reserved for residents making 60% of the American Median Income (AMI). Approximately eight units will be set aside for those making 30% of the AMI.
