Animal rescue advocate trying to lower number of stray animals in El Paso
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Animal rescue advocate and owner of local pet adoption service PAWsitive Rescue, Karen Washington, is advocating for city council to remove the "best friends" policy.
Washington told ABC-7 she's asking for the removal of the policy because she says the mission is "to end the killing of cats and dogs in shelters across America. It does not mention dogs and cats (who are) not in shelters," said Washington in an email to ABC-7.
Washington stated the policy is leading to a massive increase in stray animals across El Paso.
El Paso Animal Services stated in a Facebook post created on April Wednesday, Arpil 26th, that they are still working under emergency operations. Animal Services went under those emergency operations back on February 24th when the city informed the public of an outbreak of distemper and strep.
Animal Services says they are housing over 100 animals in a second satellite location that are all in need of a home.
