Former Loretto Academy swim coach charged with sexually assaulting a child
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Anthony Police have charged a man with sexual assault of a child. Court documents state a 23-year-old woman came forward to accuse Wright Stanton IV of sexually assaulting her when she was 15.
The court documents state the woman told investigators she was working as a lifeguard in 2015 at the Leo Cancellare Pool. At the same time, the woman told investigators Stanton was coaching her as a swimmer on the Southwest Aquatic Team.
A statement from Loretto Academy states that Stanton was employed as swim coach at the school. The school says it hired an independent professional to investigate the allegations. Loretto Academy officials stated those allegations were found to be credible and Stanton was terminated. That statement from Loretto Academy is dated December 5, 2022.
"Loretto Academy takes all allegations of misconduct seriously," the statement added. "If you have an allegation of misconduct regarding Coach Stanton, you may reach out." The school says anyone with information can reach out to (915)-566-8400.
The court documents obtained by ABC-7 state that the victim told investigators Stanton penetrated her in a back room of the Leo Cancellare Pool while she was working. In the same court document, the victim claims that a few days later Stanton penetrated her a second time inside his car, which was parked in the recreation center parking lot, near the pool.
Court records state Stanton was arrested by Anthony, Texas police in April of 2023.
