LONDON, England -- Two people were killed in a stabbing attack Friday near London Bridge that police labeled a "terrorist" incident, while three people were wounded in another stabbing incident in the Dutch city of The Hague. The motive in both cases was unclear.

"Stabbing incident with multiple wounded on the Big Market Street in The Hague," police in the Netherlands tweeted, saying the search was on for the attacker; he remained on the loose at day's end. Big Market Street is a busy shopping area in the center of the city.

Dutch authorities said the three stabbing victims were all under the age of 18; they were all treated and released from hospitals.

The news out of the Netherlands came a short time after a man was shot dead in central London by police officers following a "terrorist" stabbing incident that left two dead and three others hospitalized.

London's Metropolitan Police force identified the dead suspected attacker as Usman Khan, a 28-year-old who had served a prior prison sentence for terrorism offenses and lived in the Staffordshire area of central England.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called the attack "appalling," and the Metropolitan Police Service said it was "enhancing police patrols" in London in the wake of the attack.
