UTEP football coach discusses Miners’ 2020 signing class, says focus is on defense
EL PASO, Texas -- UTEP football held a press conference on Wednesday in the Hall of Champions on the complete Miners’ 2020 signing class.
Head coach Dana Dimel spoke to the media regarding the newest Miner signees -- and he's pretty excited about the players he's got joining the program. (You can watch his complete remarks in the video player at the top of this article.)
In all, 19 players signed with UTEP Wednesday, and a big chunk came on the defensive side of the ball with eight defensive players -- six of them are linebackers.
One of those linebackers is Kiante Liggins out of Andress High School, who is staying close to home and signed his letter of intent for UTEP at a ceremony at Andress.
UTEP is also signing three tight ends and two wide receivers, but no quarterbacks.
Dimel hinted though about a possible graduate transfer QB who may join the team, but he didn't elaborate and reiterated that his focus was on the defense.
"I feel like our defensive line, our linebackers and our secondary has made some major, major strides," Dimel said. "It's always been a challenge to be good on defense and our obviously the first year we were showing some great trends in moving in the right direction... a defensive team that can keep you in ball games."
