Locomotive stay undefeated in six straight games after 1-1 draw with Detroit

EL PASO, Texas -- The El Paso Locomotive steal a point on the road after a 1-1 draw with Detroit City FC on the stage of all stages.

The Locos travelled east to take on Detroit in a game that aired nationally on ESPN - a first for the Locos and a first for the USL.

It was all Detroit early and there was only so much GK Evan Newton could do before Detroit would find the back of the net. Their lone goal of the game would come in 23rd minute off the boot of Pato Botello-Faz after they were camped inside the box.

Within 10 minutes the Locomotive would find the equalizer. In the 32nd minute the high press from the Locos forced a Detroit error and Ricardo Zacarias found some space to give the through ball to Eric Calvillo who pounced on the ball sending it deep into the net.

The goal from Calvillo comes after he returns from international duties with El Salvador and it marks his second goal of the season for the Locos.

Newton, the all-time league leader in saves and shutouts put on a show in the second half to ensure the game would stay at 1-1. He ended the day with four total saves bringing his tally on the season to 45 - the most in the league.

In the end the stage proving the right size for two teams in form.

The Locomotive will be looking to continue their unbeaten streak on Saturday June 25, when they host New York Red Bulls II from the Eastern Conference. Kickoff is at 7.30 p.m. and the first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a limited-edition Locomotive blanket.
