El Paso Fire water rescue team pulls body from canal
EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso Fire Department water rescue team members pulled a body out of a canal Friday afternoon.
A report about a person in the water at Border Highway and Yarbrough turned into a recovery operation at the canal west of the Zaragoza port of entry.
The recovery follows several days with multiple calls for emergency rescues.
These types of emergencies spike in the summer as water is released into the Rio Grande for irrigation and treatment plants. The water also flows into canals.
Migrants crossing into the U.S. often become the victims as they misjudge the power of the current.
The body recovered today was turned over to law enforcement for investigation.
