Police blame drunk driving, speed for deadly 3-car crash at I-10 & Hawkins

UPDATE, Aug. 20: El Paso police on Friday identified 67–year-old Guadalupe Ruben Ramos Leyva as the motorist killed in a 3-car crash along I-10 at Hawkins on Wednesday night.

Authorities also announced that charges would be filed against another driver involved in that wreck after investigators determined that he was drunk and speeding.

Police didn't indicate what specific charges they intended to bring against 37–year-old Vitalia Soto or when those would be filed.

This was the 43rd traffic death of the year in El Paso compared to 49 last year at this time.

ORIGINAL REPORT, Aug. 18: EL PASO, Texas — A man was killed Wednesday night in a 3-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in east El Paso.

Investigators were summoned to the deadly collision scene along I-10 eastbound at Hawkins just before 11 p.m.

Police said the crash victim was a 67-year-old man who was rushed to a hospital, where he died from his injuries; his identity was not released.
