StormTrack Weather: A look back at Super Bowl weather events
El Paso, Texas ( KVIA)-This Sunday's Super Bowl LVII pits the top Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles and the weather couldn't be better. At kick-off, the weather conditions in Glendale Arizona are expected to be mild and breezy for the big game.
The weather hasn't always been this nice during past Super Bowls. Here's one example, Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta Georgia, the St Louis Rams against the Tennessee Titans. Two back-to-back ice storms hit the metro area bringing freezing rain and bitterly cold temperatures. The city practically shut down due to the icy conditions. Let's face it Atlanta isn't really known for having ice storms. The Rams ended up beating the Titans, 23-16, to win Super Bowl.
Super Bowl LII was the coldest, in 2018 in Minneapolis, the Philadelphia Eagles upset the New England, Patriots, 41-33. At kick off the temperature was 2 degrees, and the high for that day was 2 degrees.
The wettest game was Super Bowl XLl-- the Indianapolis Colts versus the Chicago Bears, Manning, and the Colts ended up winning that game. Prince lit up the stage during his halftime show, performing his hit song Purple Rain. That game was in 2007 at Dolphin Stadium in Miami Gardens Florida. The rain total for that day was 0.92".
It's safe to say that the combination of dry conditions and mainly sunny skies will make for an uneventful weather day this year.
