Uber driver critically injured following shooting on U.S. 54 near Bridge of the Americas

UPDATE: A 52-year-old El Paso man was critically injured following a shooting on U.S. 54 near Loop 375 Friday.

According to EPPD officials, the man is an Uber driver. He was driving a 48-year-old woman from Kentucky.

At some point, the woman shot the driver for an unknown reason.

There were preliminary reports of a possible kidnapping, but police say the investigation does not support that.

The driver was critically injured and taken to the hospital. The passenger is currently being detained for investigative purposes.

Crimes Against Persons Unit and Investigators from the Criminalistics Unit responded to the scene.

This is an active investigation. Police have not provided any other details.
