Border Patrol apprehends four people following West El Paso chase that left car in Rio Grande
UPDATE - U.S. Border Patrol agents have taken four people into custody after a chase led to a car being partially submerged in the Rio Grande.
On Sunday morning, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper noticed a blue Chevrolet TrailBlazer on North Mesa Street with an expired registration, according to a DPS spokesperson. The trooper attempted to pull the car over, but the driver fled.
The driver was reportedly going above 100 milers per hour, while traveling east on I-10.
The pursuit then went towards Executive Center Boulevard, ending near a dirt round on South Paisano.
Texas DPS is reporting that the suspect drove their vehicle into the Rio Grande, along with the six passengers
The seven people began to swim away, but Border Patrol was able to apprehend four of them. The driver and the two passengers made it to Mexico.
Water Rescue Teams were called to the scene, no injures are being reported by DPS.
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- El Paso Fire officials have confirmed that a water rescue is underway in west El Paso.
It's happening near Paisano Drive and Executive Center Blvd in the Rio Grande, not far from where the state lines of Texas and New Mexico intersect with the Mexican border.
Officials say that call came in at 6:54 a.m. Sunday morning.
Preliminary reports suggest a car is completely submerged in the river.
We're still working to learn how many people are being rescued, as well as what led up to this rescue.
