‘Priceless Heart Day’ in El Paso honors memory of boy killed in ATV accident
EL PASO, Texas-- Clinton "Price" Stanley was only 10-years-old when his life was tragically cut short in an ATV accident that happened last November.
On what would have been his 11th birthday on Monday, Price's family and friends honored him in a special way.
"The Mayor and the City Council has proclaimed January 27th a 'Priceless Heart Day' to coincide with his spirit and his passion for giving," said Keithley Stanley, Price's mom.
On "Priceless Heart Day" the community is encouraged to wear red to honor the memory of Price.
"Price in a couple of words was joyful, giving and cared for everyone. He had a big empathetic heart," said Stanley.
After the tragic loss of Price, Stanley decided to find the silver lining in this tragedy by creating a fund in Price's memory.
"People wanted to help, they felt like they wanted to donate so we filtered that money into the Priceless Heart Fund with the El Paso Community Foundation to gain money for scholarships," said Stanley.
But Stanley felt like she needed to do more to honor her son's memory.
"I wanted to spread the essence and passion of Price and what that boiled down to was how to teach children to give," said Stanley.
Through the guidance of the El Paso Community Foundation, the Priceless Heart Project was created. It's a project aimed at teaching and promoting giving to young children in local schools.
"The Priceless Heart Project would be about a week long. Each day of the week would start with a letter of his name. So, P would mean Promote Giving. R would mean Reach Out. I is Include Everyone. C is Create Change, and E is Empower Yourself," explained Stanley.
For the Stanley family, these projects are a way for them to cope with the tragic loss of their loved one.
"This was a tragic event but the outcome doesnt have to be tragic," said Stanley.
And on this day, Price's 11th birthday, Stanley is sure that her son is looking down at them. Proud of what his family is doing to keep his memory alive.
"I'd hope he'd be proud. I think he would be inspired to do more himself. Even at a young age he would be so brave but i think he is proud today. Proud of all of us."
