CLINT, Texas -- U.S. Border Patrol agents in Clint arrested a convicted felon who is also a member of a Mexican gang.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Clint station said they encountered three people last week trying to illegally enter the United States from Mexico.

The trio was found partially submerged in a canal in an effort to try to conceal themselves.

The agents transported the group to the Clint Border Patrol station where they discovered through record checks that 25-year-old Juan Rodriguez-Garcia, a Mexican national, had a prior felony conviction out of Oklahoma for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Rodriguez-Garcia was deported from the U.S. in August 2016 after being incarcerated.

During the interview process, Rodriguez-Garcia admitted to being an active gang member.
