Santa Teresa 6th grader chosen as finalist in Google art contest
SANTA TERESA, New Mexico -- A 6th grader at Santa Teresa Elementary School is up for a scholarship and $50,000 for her school, but she needs your vote to cash in.
Natalia Vilchis-Ramos created artwork depicting healthcare workers in the nationwide "Doodle for Google" contest. The contest's theme was "I'm strong because," and Vilchis-Ramos says her artwork really means something.
"What these people symbolize to me is during these hard times, they stayed strong... I really wanted to commemorate their hard work. Always being on the front line, and available to help anyone," Vilchis-Ramos says.
Now, along with artists from other states, she's in the running for the national prize. The five designs with the most votes will then be in the running for $30,000 in scholarships and $50,000 worth of technology for their school.
"Even if I don't get in the top five, it's still such a great honor to be representing the entire state and I'm super grateful for all I've already gotten and received," Vilchis-Ramos says.
As humble as she is, she is asking for your vote: You can click here to do so.
