ABC-7 obtains surveillance video of teen couple arrested for allegedly breaking into businesses

Police have released information on a teen couple that were allegedly involved in a string of burglaries.

Police have charged 18 -year-old Shalene Robinette and 19-year-old Robert Marquez with burglary of a business.

ABC-7 spoke with shop owners of some of the businesses that were burglarized and one of those shops provided ABC-7 with very clear video of the break in.

Surveillance video at around midnight, April 26 captures who the shop owner believes is 18-year-old Shalene Robinette breaking into Hollywood Nails on El Paso’s east side.

At one point the teen even looks at the camera. You can also see her looking out for cars.

Then with a crowbar in hand she begins to pry open the door.

The shop owner told ABC-7 she continued prying the door open for 15 minutes.

Video shows the teen eventually gets inside and scours the nail salon. The shop owner tells ABC-7 Robinette found some of the stylists tip money.

In the video you can see her pocket the cash and move on.

The shop owner said Robinette allegedly took $600 in cash, nearly $2,000 in facial and nail products.

The shop owner said along with the cost of repairing the door, the business is short close to $4,000.

Police said the couple also hit Creative Hair salon on Dyer Street and World Finance on Yarbrough Drive.

Police said they began surveillance on the couple and arrested them at the Fun Cuts hair salon on 1470 George Dieter Drive.

“First of all it’s very scary,” said Maria Sanchez

Sanchez is the owner Fun Cuts hair salon.

Sanchez tells ABC-7 police knocked at her door Wednesday at around 2 a.m. and told her, her business had been broken into.

“It sucks because I just started my business and now I have to do repairs on the door,” Sanchez said.

A nearby business also had surveillance video of who they believe is Robert Marquez. In the video you can also see police activity and a helicopter spotlight on the scene.

Sanchez said she can’t believe they are so young and ruining their lives.

“It’s just a shame,” Sanchez added.

Hair and nail stylists beware: Both shop owners tell ABC-7 the couple wasn’t going for the money in the registers, they were going for the tip money left overnight at the stations.

Robinette is being held on a $20,000 bond and Marquez is being held on a $80,000 bond.
