Search for missing soldier continues 9 months after disappearance from Fort Bliss
EL PASO, Texas -- Despite 15 local, state and federal agencies devoting resources to search efforts over the past nine months, military officials said Wednesday that they still lack answers in the disappearance of a Fort Bliss Army private and put out a new public call seeking leads.
Richard Halliday was last seen on July 23 of last year leaving his on-post barracks room at Fort Bliss.
Since his disappearance, officials said unsuccessful searches for Halliday have taken place in areas around Fort Bliss, downtown El Paso, other parts of Texas, other U.S. States, and the border areas of Mexico.
“CID Special Agents have aggressively pursued all available and credible leads in the search for Pvt. Richard Halliday, and continue to do so. We have, and continue to, work closely with numerous law enforcement agencies as well as the U.S. Department of State and Mexican law enforcement. To date, we have found no credible evidence or
information that supports that Pvt. Halliday is in Mexico," said Marlon Soto, the Special Agent in Charge of the Army's Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
"We are still offering a reward for up to $25,000 for credible information leading to the whereabouts of Pvt. Halliday and strongly encourage anyone with information to immediately come forward,” he added.
Army officials asked anyone with information on Halliday to contact the Fort Bliss Criminal Investigation Division Office at 915-568-1700 or the Fort Bliss Military Police at 915-744-1237.
