Women travel great distances to the Sunland Park Reproduction Clinic for abortion
SUNLAND PARK, New Mexico- Women are having to travel great distances in order to be prescribed a pill to terminate their pregnancy.
ABC-7 spoke with a couple from Fort Worth who came to Sunland Park for the pill.
Dorian Harris, a patient's boyfriend, told ABC-7 he started driving at around 11 p.m. and got to El Paso at around 7 a.m. That's about $300 in gas.
“I am very frustrated because we originally had a treatment scheduled for Louisiana and it was about 7 days when she was supposed to get her call back and it got canceled the day of,” Harris said.
ABC-7 spoke with a woman who was angry at the barriers to abortion. She asked not to be identified.
"They wouldn't even open their appointment book until July 1st. That would have pushed me back another 3 weeks which would have pushed me passed the date for the pills. I would then have to spend a few thousand bucks to have the surgical procedure.”
She added that the round-trip ticket from El Paso to Lafayette, the procedure and her stay cost her around $3,000.
