Juarez welcomes newest resident of its Central Park

JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) -- Ciudad Juarez is introducing a new resident to 'El Parque Central.' A new giraffe will now live where the deceased giraffe 'Modesto' lived for over 20 years.

Juarez news sources are reporting the new giraffe is over 3 years old and it was donated to the park.

The new resident arrived on Wednesday and it was seen by some Juarez residents driving around the city.

Juarez's new animal doesn't have a name confirmed yet, but it's expected to be chosen soon by children in Juarez.

The Thursday presentation will be attended by some schools. Members of the Juarez community are invited to welcome the new giraffe.

Juarez and state authorities have put signs around the giraffe's home, helping people understand the animal's diet and prevent what happened with previous animals at the park. When 'Modesto' passed away last year, there were reports that people were feeding him and other animals chips and other types of snacks meant for humans.

Juarenses are still mourning the loss of Modesto and authorities hope this new guest will bring them joy.
