“We’re still in shock and disbelief:” Woman and her son displaced after mobile home fire in Mesquite

MESQUITE, New Mexico (KVIA) -- "We're just so thankful that we both got out."

Adriana Soto and her son are still sifting through the pieces of their charred home after a fire on Saturday.

Soto said she noticed a smell coming inside from outside the bedroom windows. By the time she realized what was going on, the entire house was already engulfed. She only had enough time to grab her son and evacuate outside.

Thankfully, no one was hurt in the fire, but nearly everything burned inside. The mobile home is being called a "total loss."

"It's still hard to process that this actually happened," said Soto.

Soto and her son are currently staying with her mother.

She has set up a GoFundMe if anyone wishes to donate.

An investigation report from the Doña Ana County Fire Department says that the cause of the fire is undetermined, but Soto believes the fire started somewhere on the east side of the trailer.
