Weekend Planner: Holiday activities
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- As the Christmas festivities continue throughout the Borderland, here is a list of what you can expect for Saturday, Dec. 16.
- The "Navidad de la fe luminarias" returns to scenic drive Saturday.
4,000 luminarias, sand-filled paper bags with a candle, will be lit at nightfall along El Paso’s Scenic Drive.
It starts at 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. the event is free and open to the public. Vehicles can enter scenic drive at Richmond Avenue. Traffic will enter Scenic Drive at Richmond Avenue and head westbound in a single lane. Vehicles will exit Scenic Drive at Rim Road. Drivers are asked to dim their vehicle’s lights and proceed slowly and cautiously along the event route. For safety reasons, participants are asked to remain inside their vehicles at all times.
All participants are asked to bring nutritious, unexpired canned and non-perishable foods or cash donations to help El Paso families in need.
- In Las Cruces, the city invites residents to celebrate the winter holidays with crafts and games Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will be at Albert Johnson Park, located at 200 e. Picacho Ave.
Those who attend can make snowflakes, decorate a cookie cookbook, and participate in many other fun activities.
- El Paso ISD is partnering with Rudolph Automotive group for a coat drive.
The distribution event is scheduled to take place Saturday from noon to 5 p.m at Rudolph Honda, located at 5655 S. Desert Blvd., offering an opportunity for families to select coats for their children.
