El Paso man dies electrocuted, woman injured in a Jacuzzi in Puerto Peñasco Mexico, family asking for help

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A couple from El Paso was shocked in a jacuzzi in Mexico, with one man dying from electrocution, according to the Sonora attorney general. It happened at the Sonora Sea Resort in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora which is also known as rocky point. The resort is about a mile drive from the Arizona border. The family has set up a go fund me account which you can find here. The Gofundme identified the couple as Jorge and Lizzette.

43-year-old Jorge Guillen died electrocuted, and 35-year-old Lizeth Zambrano remains hospitalized due to her injuries. ABC-7 spoke with several people who worked close to Guillen and they say he was set to graduate from college Friday June 14th, 2024. Director of the Hvac program at Western Technical College, Harry Gruber said "It was like a punch in the gut." when he heard Guillen died. Gruber added "I remember him saying he was going on a vacation and this is what happened."

The video above shows the moments the couple was inside the jacuzzi on the evening of June 11th. You can see bystanders were screaming for help and one person is seen pulled to safety on the pool deck. You can also see someone else giving CPR. The Sonora Attorney General says that a forensic analysis will be conducted to determine the origin of the electrical failure.

Guillen is described as a hard-working family man. Maxine Valencia, Ed.D, president at Western Technical College El Paso says they will be acknowledging him Friday June 14th during the graduation ceremony. Valencia said "So he was set to graduate tomorrow. it's definitely going to be very difficult, but we will be honoring him now. We will be providing, a degree to his family on his behalf. We'll also be acknowledging him at the ceremony tomorrow. We'll also be asking for a moment of silence."
