The Menendez brothers built a green space in prison. It’s modeled on this Norwegian idea

COPENHAGEN (AP) — Erik and Lyle Menendez launched an ongoing beautification initiative in the prison where they are serving life sentences for the 1989 killings of their parents. Their project is modeled on a program in Norway, where authorities try to help rehabilitate prisoners so they can be reintegrated in society. Across the Scandinavian region the belief prevails that prisons should be humane places, even for those who have committed terrible crimes. Norway believes that rehabilitation in prisons surrounded by nature leads to successful reintegration into society, and the country has some of the lowest recidivism rates in the world.
