Edwin Delgado KVIA

JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) -- Ciudad Juarez is getting a new animal who will live in the same spot where a popular giraffe brought joy to people for years.

ABC-7 reported on the death of Modesto the giraffe last June. He was famous for snacking on the food that visitors brought him. He died of a heart attack at the age of 23. Modesto had lived at the Parque Central (Central Park) since 2001.

Now several Juarez news sources are reporting that the park will get a new animal for the spot Modesto left empty. The new animal will be unveiled Thursday. We are still working to learn what kind of animal will be making the park home, but those same Juarez news sources are reporting that it will be a 4-year-old giraffe.

El Paso just became home to a new giraffe. A baby boy was born to the El Paso Zoo's 5-year-old female giraffe Gigi last month.
