Anthony ISD nurse retires after 48 years of employment

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) --After dedicating nearly half a century to looking after the wellbeing of Anthony ISD students, District Nurse Marlene White is retiring.

According to AISD, White was hired in 1975 as the district’s first full-time nurse. She lead efforts for proper vaccination access for students in the 70's. She was a first responder during medical crises in the 90’s and spearheaded a COVID-19 community testing site in 2020.

She told ABC-7 watching kids grow and become parents of their own in her career has been rewarding to witness.

"They do come back and they do let me know. I have one that told me, I'm so thankful that you were there to help me with my asthma and you know, It's nice to hear that, that they appreciated what we did, what I did for them," she said.

White's last day of work will be Dec. 20. She hopes to travel with her husband, spend time with her grandkids and jump back into her sewing hobby.

Still, she says the memories she's made here will last a lifetime.

"I just love being here and it's going to be hard to leave," said White.
