ORIGINAL REPORT, Aug. 24: HORIZON CITY, Texas -- It took firefighters from several departments about two hours Tuesday to bring a large fire under control that burned in a desert area of Horizon City.
The blaze broke out about 4 p.m. at a recycling facility that handles cardboard and pallets and spread to nearby brush in the Lakeway Estates area.
Firefighters had to request additional water tankers to put out the flames due to a lack of hydrants in the area. Fire crews from Horizon, Socorro and Montana were all on scene and gained control over the blaze around 6 p.m.
Numerous Horizon residents called ABC-7 to report seeing a black plume of smoke that was visible for miles shortly after the fire broke out.
There were no injuries reported.
