El Paso barbecue restaurant hosts backpack and school supplies drive

EL PASO, Texas - A barbecue restaurant in west El Paso is serving more than just pulled pork and slow-cooked ribs to the community.

Kings BBQ & Southern Kitchen, owned by army veteran Felder Shackleford Jr, has partnered up with local foundations, including the Quinten Demps Foundation, to hold the School Backpack Drive, which aims to provide school supplies and backpacks to underprivileged kids.

"We're not rich, but there's so many ways we can give back" said Shackleford.

The drive, which started on June 1st and last until August 10th, will conclude with a "block party" around the parking lot area of Kings BBQ on Mesa St. Many resources for struggling parents and underprivileged kids will be available.

"We'll have all sorts of resources for parents so when they come, the kids will have fun" Shackleford added. Entertainment for kids such as music and pony riding will be available.

He added "I'm blessed, so I want someone else to be blessed."
