Good Samaritan killed trying to stop assault on 14-year-old girl and her mother
CHICAGO, Illinois -- A good Samaritan is dead after protecting a 14-year-old girl and her mother from an attack in metro Chicago.
Berwyn Police say the girl's mother was working as a cashier at a store last Friday when her daughter asked her about a water bottle.
A man thought the child was cutting in line; he began swearing at the girl and allegedly punching her in the face.
When her mother intervened, the man punched her too.
32-old Humberto Guzman stepped in to help them, and police say the attacker stabbed him multiple times. He died at a hospital shortly after.
The suspect fled the scene but was caught by police later, but not before he stabbed another person. That person was was treated at a local hospital and survived.
