MISSOULA (KPAX TV) — The Missoula City Fire Department has sent a crew of firefighters to help in California .
The crew left earlier this week, headed for Nevada before making final stops in Sonoma County and Los Angeles.
Four engines are on the way, carrying 15 firefighters.
Officials say the winds in California are stronger than we’re used to seeing with fires in Montana.
Assistant Fire Chief Gordy Hughes says since there are no wildland fires nearby, he was comfortable sending the crew to help.
“Hopefully everybody will be home before thanksgiving, and we wish them safety of course during their travels, and when they’re down in the fire lines helping out,” Hughes said.
The crew is stationed for 14 days, and plans to return after those two weeks.
