Buncombe County, NC (WLOS) — A local charity is getting ready to help hundreds of Buncombe County students.

Volunteers at Hearts with Hands prepared for their first ever Hope for the Holidays event on Monday. They packed hygiene boxes, sorted food and wrapped presents. All of which will be given to students in need on December 7.

“We’ve had over 50 volunteers tonight and this is Thanksgiving week, so this is a great way to show thankfulness as well as be thankful for the opportunity to help others,” said Hearts with Hands president Greg Lentz.

Hearts with Hands volunteers are also preparing to bring gifts and supplies to those affected by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. They adopted 300 families and will be hand-delivering them in December.
