LINCOLN COUNTY, OR (KPTV) — Deputies arrested an armed man in Yachats Saturday afternoon after he burglarized a yurt, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 12:20 p.m., deputies were called out to a reported burglary in the 1200 block of North Yachats River Road. The 911 caller reported seeing smoke coming from a yurt that was supposed to be unoccupied. The caller also reported a black pickup truck parked near the yurt.

Deputies, as well as two Oregon State Police troopers, arrived to the scene and found felled trees across the driveway, making access impossible by vehicle.

While checking the area and the yurt, deputies found several edged weapons, a bow and arrow, and a pellet gun.

The sheriff’s office said the nearby Toyota Tacoma was a vehicle of interest in a recent officer safety bulletin from Santa Rose, California.

While deputies waited for a K-9 to arrive to the scene, they saw a man exit a nearby wooded area armed with a bow and arrow.

The man, identified as 37-year-old Michael Gordon Richie, of Forestville, CA, was the subject of the officer safety bulletin, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies issued commands for Richie to drop the weapon and put his hands up. The sheriff’s office said Richie complied, but deputies could see other weapons visible on his person.

After about 15 minutes of negotiating, Richie surrendered to deputies.

Richie was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary, felon in possession of a restricted weapon, carrying of concealed weapons, second-degree criminal trespass, third-degree theft, and third-degree criminal mischief.

His bail is set at $232,500.
