STORRS, Connecticut - Fresh off a national championship, El Pasoan and Burges grad, Tristen Newton, is ready to run it back with the UConn Huskies.

Wednesday, Newton announced via social media his intention to return to UConn, and withdraw his name from this year's NBA Draft.

Newton has already played four seasons of college basketball, but he'll be using his extra season of eligibility due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Newton won a national championship this past season with the UConn Huskies.

He was a vital part of the team playing point guard and getting the start in 38 of UConn's 39 games this past season.

The 6-foot-5 guard finished the season averaging 10.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists, shooting a career-high 36.6% from 3-point range.

Newton led the way in scoring for the Huskies in the NCAA championship game against San Diego State, putting up 19 points.

Prior to joining the UConn Huskies, Newton played three seasons at East Carolina University.
