All El Paso teams fall in high school football area round playoffs

LUBBOCK, Texas (KVIA) -- All three El Paso teams fell in the area round of their respective playoffs to officially end the El Paso High School football season.

The Eastwood Troopers had a 62-29 loss to the Byron Nelson Bobcats. The Troopers fell behind 36-0 before scoring twice in the second quarter. They were down 41-14 at halftime and could not overcome the deficit.

The Andress Eagles fell to the Melissa Cardinals 62-14. The Eagles were able to pull within a touchdown in the second quarter, but like the Troopers they could not overcome their deficit in the second half.

The El Dorado Aztecs lost to the Richland Royals 70-37. El Dorado running back Ryan Estrada scored to make it a 21-10 game in the first half on a long touchdown run. The Royals were up by 25 points at halftime and then extended the lead to put the Aztecs away.

ABC-7's Bea Martinez spoke with Aztecs Head Coach Frank Martinez after the game who said he's extremely proud of his team for getting to this point.

"Last year we were stopped one game before this one. We wanted to keep it rolling. These guys set a lasting tradition that's going to keep going."

Estrada also spoke after the game, telling ABC-7 that he's going to continue repping El Paso as he goes to Minnesota to further his football career.

"It's been a hell of a ride all 4 years."
