High School Soccer Playoffs: Americas & Burges eliminated after losing Final Four playoff matches

MIDLAND, Texas - The season came to a heartbreaking end for the Americas Trail Blazers and the Burges Mustangs in the Final Four of the UIL boys high school soccer playoffs.

Both teams' semifinal matches were played in Midland, TX.

In Class 5A Division 1, Americas was the first to take the pitch against Prosper Walnut Grove.

Walnut Grove won the match by a final score of 1-0.

For the second straight year, Americas was once again eliminated by Walnut Grove in the Final Four of the playoffs.

Walnut Grove went on to the win the state championship that year, and now they will have the opportunity to defend their title as they return to the state title match.

After a scoreless first half, Walnut Grove scored the only goal of the match with about 6 minutes left to go in the game.

Americas was unable to respond and will end their season with a record of 22-3.

Burges was the next team to take the field in the Class 5A Division 2 semifinal match against Frisco Wakeland.

Wakeland would get the victory in a match that came down to penalty kicks, 4-2.

Both teams traded goals in the first half and went into halftime tied 1-1.

After a scoreless second half, Burges and Wakeland headed to overtime, but after two overtime periods neither team was able to break the deadlock.

The match was decided by penalty kicks with Wakeland getting the better of the Mustangs, 4-2.

This was the first Final Four appearance in program history for the Mustangs.

Burges ends their season with an overall record of 19-6.
