UTEP Men’s Track & Field places 2nd at C-USA Championships
MURFREESBORO, Tennessee- It may take a while for UTEP's Track and Field team to get through airport security on their flight back to El Paso. But with all the hardware from the Conference USA Championships, I don't think Coach Mikka Laaksonen will mind.
Both Sean Bailey and Shakeem Smith earned three gold medals across various compeititons, and the UTEP Men's team took an overall second place finish at the C-USA Outdoor Championships at Middle Tennessee State University over the weekend.
Bailey and Smith teamed up for gold as part of the 4x100m relay team, joined by Jevaughn Powell and Dennis Johnson. The relay squad built an early lead, before Johnson had to hold off Charlotte's anchor for a photo finish victory.
Bailey also earned gold in the 400m sprint and as part of the 4x400 relay team. Smith set personal bests in gold medal finishes in the 110m hurdle (13.73) and the 400m hurdle (49.82).
