UTEP men’s basketball adds JUCO All-American Sharpshooter
EL PASO, Texas - UTEP men’s basketball has signed JUCO All-American and prolific scorer Corey Camper Jr. (Tyler Junior College), head coach Joe Golding announced Wednesday.

Tallied nearly 1,000 points while starting all 59 games he played in during a prolific two-year career for Tyler Junior College under NJCAA Hall of Fame Coach Mike Marquis … earned JUCO All-American Honorable-Mention Status in 2022-23 after rating 28th in the nation for scoring (19.9 ppg) while shooting 50.4 percent from the floor (210-417) and 36.0 percent from 3-point range (45-125).
Chose the Miners over offers from two other C-USA programs … also drilled 76.2 percent at the charity stripe (131-172) … got there early and often, with his 131 makes ranking 31st nationally … added 5.1 rebounds per game and 3.0 assists per game … tallied 25 double-digit scoring efforts in his 30 starts in 2022-23, including 17 showings with 20 or more points.
Shot 50 percent or better in 16 tilts … erupted for a career-high 40 points on 17-26 shooting in a win at Jacksonville (12/10/22) … registered 31 points on 8-16 shooting and 11-14 at the free-throw line against Trinity Valley (1/18/23) … turned in a 29-point effort against Navarro (2/15/23) while producing 28 points at Paris (1/14/23) … had his first career double-double (28 points, 10 rebounds) in a triumph against CYM Prep (11/25/22) … peeled off 20+ points in five straight and nine of 10 early in the campaign.
Scored at least seven points in all but one game … played in the NJCAA Rising All Stars event in summer of 2022 … burst onto scene by putting up 12.1 ppg on 44.4 percent shooting (116-261), including 35.4 percent on treys (40-113) in starting all 29 games he appeared in as a freshman … also drained 85.7 percent from the line (78-91) … chipped in 2.7 rpg and 2.7 apg to go along with 27 steals … came on strong down the stretch with eight straight double-digit scoring efforts, including back-to-back 30+ point games .
Went off for 33 points on 13-20 shooting (4-6 on 3-pointers) against Panola (1/29/22) … followed that up with a 31-point outburst at Bossier Parrish (2/2/22), which was aided by draining 14-15 at the charity stripe … came alive for a 26-point effort vs. Bossier Parish (2/26/22), thanks to a ridiculous 8-14 from distance … overall hit double figures in scoring in 15 contests as a freshman … nailed at least three triples in seven tilts … pulled down at least seven boards in three different games … was an All-State and All-Conference performer in consecutive seasons for Little Rock Central HS after leading the school to back-to-back state finals for the first time since 2002 … voted as a top-five player in 6A in the state by the AR Basketball Coaches’ Association as a senior … was also an All-State Tournament selection … his dad was inducted into the Harding University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012 … he is among the program’s all-time leaders for career points (2,102-third), steals (172-third), free throws (410) and scoring average (18.0).
