LA Tech get back-to-back wins against the Miners
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- UTEP Softball fell to LA Tech 7-2 in game two of the series Saturday afternoon at Helen of Troy Field.
LA Tech's Amanda Gonzalez recorded a base hit in the opening inning with a single down the right field line and was plated by Kylie Neel's RBI double to give the Techsters the 1-0 edge.
UTEP's Amaya Lee and Ajia Richard both singled up the middle in the second inning. Richard attempted to steal second and found herself caught in a rundown, but Lee found the opportunity to score before the tag to tie the game at 1-1.
After a quiet third inning, Tech stretched the lead by six runs over the next three frames. LA Tech regained the lead with Carol Easom's RBI single in the fourth. Brooke Diaz and Kate Cooper lifted the Techsters to five runs in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly and 2-RBI double, respectively.
With Tech runners on third and second in the sixth inning, Bailey Wright made her way home on a wild pitch, moving Sierra Sacco to third, who crossed the dish shortly after courtesy of Gonzalez's single to lift the Techsters to seven runs on the day. UTEP's Savannah Favre slapped another run on the board for the Miners with a bomb over center field to cut Tech's lead to 7-2.
Game three of the three-game series is set for Sunday, April 23 at 12 p.m. MT. The contest will be streamed on CUSA.tv, with live stats also available.
