Texas DPS pursuit ends in Central El Paso Wednesday morning

EL PASO, Texas -- Texas Department of Public Safety officials confirmed an early morning pursuit that ended in Central El Paso.

Officials say they a trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop when the vehicle sped away.

The pursuit eventually stopped at the intersection of N. Raynor St. and Douglas Ave.

Eight individuals fled the vehicle on foot while the driver stayed behind. They have not confirmed if the people who fled are migrants.

Officials did confirm the driver had a Texas ID. State troopers are looking for the eight individuals.

In different parts of the city, two traffic stops were conducted that lead to the apprehension of migrants.

The first of traffic stop was for a fake tag. Two migrants were from Mexico.

The second, was for a failure to signal. Three migrants were taken into custody. Place of origin is currently unknown.

A DPS spokesperson said there has been a significant rise in pursuits involving migrants.

He said that people smuggling migrants are usually working for the criminal organizations. Those individuals ask not to be arrested because their families will face the backlash for their failure.
