1 dead, 6 hospitalized after Sunland Park traffic crash
SUNLAND PARK, New Mexico -- A four-vehicle crash in Sunland Park late Saturday night killed one woman and injured six other people, state police said.
It happened along McNutt Road (NM 273) at the Pete Domenici Highway (NM 136) about 11 p.m. when police said the driver of a truck crossed the center line and collided with three other vehicles.
Danielle Perez, 32, of El Paso was killed in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner said. Police indicated a total of six others were injured and taken to hospitals; there was no immediate word on their conditions.
The name of the truck driver, whom police said triggered the crash, has not been released - and it was unknown if that driver would be facing any charges.
"Many details (about the crash) are still unknown," a police spokesperson said early Sunday, and authorities were trying to piece those together.
McNutt Road remained closed through about 8 a.m. Sunday for investigators with the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
