Motorcyclist dies after colliding with SUV in downtown El Paso
UPDATE: Police said Thursday that a motorcyclist has died at a local hospital after being gravely injured in a downtown El Paso traffic crash the prior night.
Authorities identified the victim as 32–year-old Jose Abel Gonzalez of El Paso and said he was the city's 66th traffic fatality of the year.
Investigators said an SUV made an illegal turn and Gonzalez's motorcycle "clipped the rear of the Toyota Sequoia as it crossed in front of him."
"The impact caused Gonzalez’s motorcycle to skid across the roadway and strike (a man) as he walked in a crosswalk. The vehicle came to a rest on the sidewalk when it struck a cement pillar," a police incident report said.
Neither the pedestrian nor the SUV driver were hurt.
Police didn't indicate whether any citations would be issued or charges filed against the SUV driver as a result of the deadly incident.
