Man in 20s struck, killed running along I-10 in El Paso

UPDATE, March 18: El Paso police on Thursday identified a pedestrian struck and killed while running across Interstate 10 near Porfirio Diaz as a man his 20s, but withheld his name until family could be notified.

Investigators indicated they had determined the driver of the car that hit the man was not at fault for his death, but offered no further details.

Wednesday night's death marked the 12th traffic fatality of the year in El Paso, according to police data.

ORIGINAL REPORT, March 17: EL PASO, Texas -- A pedestrian running across Interstate 10 in El Paso was struck by a vehicle and killed Wednesday evening.

Police summoned investigators to the deadly freeway incident about 8 p.m. along I-10 eastbound near Schuster.

No further details were immediately available, but police said all eastbound lanes of I-10 were closed between Schuster and Porfino Diaz.
