Pedestrian killed in west El Paso was struck by 2 cars while crossing unlit street

UPDATE, Dec. 6: A pedestrian who was struck and killed in west El Paso was hit by two different vehicles after crossing in the middle of the 4100 block of North Mesa Street in area with no crosswalk or streetlights, police said Monday.

Authorities still have not identified the pedestrian in Friday night's deadly incident.

In an incident report, police wrote: "Preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing North Mesa from west to east when he was struck by a vehicle that was traveling southbound. A second vehicle then ran over the pedestrian after being struck by the first vehicle, (and) the pedestrian died at the scene. The pedestrian was not on a crosswalk and was crossing in an area that had no street lights."

Police indicated the pedestrian death was the city's 67th traffic fatality of this year, compared to 65 at this same time last year.

ORIGINAL REPORT, Dec. 3: EL PASO, Texas — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in west El Paso on Friday night.

It happened at Mesa and Eubank streets.

Police summoned traffic investigators to the scene around 9 p.m. and Mesa was closed in both directions into Saturday morning.

Police said the pedestrian died at the scene, but provided no further details.
