UTEP fires women’s softball coach after 6 seasons
EL PASO, Texas -- The University of Texas-El Paso fired the head coach of its women's softball program Friday after six seasons that failed to produce a winning record.
"Tobin Echo-Hawk will not return for the 2020 season," UTEP Athletic Director Jim Seter said in a statement. “We thank Tobin for her service to UTEP and the Miner softball program.”
Seter said Echo-Hawk had been "relieved of her duties" but declined to comment further, calling her dismissal "a personnel matter."
Echo-Hawk became the softball coach in 2014. Through the 2019 season, she compiled a 104-207 record overall and a 57-87 mark in Conference USA play. The Miners did make two Conference USA Tournament appearances during her tenure.
Seter did not indicate who would replace Echo-Hawk as coach. He said "plans for future leadership of the UTEP softball program are to be announced" at a later date.
